Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers about our laboratory sessions

About Participation

Q What is the target age for participants?

Our programs are primarily designed for students from 3rd grade elementary through 3rd year junior high school. However, 1st and 2nd grade elementary students can participate with a parent or guardian.

High school students and above are also welcome to join. Please feel free to contact us for more information.

Q Can beginners participate?

Absolutely! We regularly hold introductory workshops for first-time participants.

We provide thorough guidance on using laboratory equipment, so no prior science experiment experience is necessary.

Q Can parents observe the sessions?

Yes, parents are welcome to observe. While there may be space limitations, we generally encourage parental observation.

Watching your child's learning process can provide great conversation starters at home.

About Course Content

Q What are clear specimens?

Clear specimens are biological samples where soft tissues have been made transparent through special chemical treatment, with the skeletal structure beautifully stained.

Hard bones are stained red and cartilage blue, allowing three-dimensional observation of biological internal structures. They possess both scientific and artistic value, resembling beautiful glass sculptures.

Q What types of specimens can we observe?

We can observe clear specimens of various organisms including:

  • Fish (medaka, goldfish, tropical fish, etc.)
  • Amphibians (frogs, newts, etc.)
  • Reptiles (lizards, geckos, etc.)
  • Small mammals (mice, etc.)
  • Arthropods (shrimp, crabs, etc.)

Available specimens may vary by season and session content.

Q What will students learn in the sessions?

Through observation of clear specimens, students will learn:

  • Structure and function of biological bodies
  • Mechanisms of evolution and adaptation
  • Microscope usage and observation techniques
  • Scientific thinking methods
  • Recording and summarizing observation results

We emphasize developing the ability to ask "why?" rather than just acquiring knowledge.

About Safety

Q Are the chemicals used in experiments safe?

The clear specimens used in our sessions have already been processed and are in a safe state. Children do not directly handle any chemicals.

All experiments, including microscope observations, follow safety-conscious procedures. We provide safety instruction before experiments and have protective equipment such as safety goggles available.

Q Are there considerations for allergies?

We check for allergies during registration.

Specimen preservation solutions contain glycerin and similar substances, but students don't directly touch them. For those with latex allergies, we provide non-latex gloves and make individual accommodations.

Q What infection control measures are in place?

We implement the following infection control measures:

  • Thorough hand washing and sanitization before and after sessions
  • Disinfection of laboratory equipment
  • Proper ventilation
  • Small class sizes to avoid crowding
  • Request to refrain from participation when feeling unwell

About Fees & Registration

Q What are the participation fees?

Fees vary depending on the type of session. Please refer to the event registration page for details.

Q How do I register?

Please register through the Events page.

Classes close once capacity is reached, so please register early.
